WHY YOU WILL LOVE TRC
The lodge
Highlights
Immerse yourself in one of the most biodiverse forests in the world
Explore the heart of the Tambopata National Reserve and actively participate in the conservation of its forests through citizen science on this Amazon ecolodge in Peru.
Our beloved Tambopata Research Center is located within the Tambopata National Reserve in front of the Bahuaja Sonene National Park in Madre de Dios, PERU, making it one of the most remote lodges in South America! The lodge's pristine location means that it's surrounded by the best wildlife the Peruvian Amazon jungle has to offer, and you will be able to discover it throughout our unique explorations.
Note this is not a hotel, but a comfortable ecolodge with only 24 rooms in the middle of the rainforest.
The Tambopata Research Center experience is ideal for nature lovers and photographers.
* The lodge features 300 meters (almost 1000 feet) of elevated walkways! These walkways are located on the perfect level of the forest — in between the canopy and the floor — where wildlife becomes more active.
*A trip to the Tambopata Research Center includes a visit to the 2 most important clay licks in the region: the Colorado and Chuncho Clay licks.
*Support Research and Conservation. Since 1989, researchers have been carrying out groundbreaking conservation research from the Tambopata Research Center.

I can not say enough good things about my time at the Tambopata Research Center. Between the guides, the boat drivers, the chefs, the staff, the bartenders, the researchers, etc. Everyone was absolutely wonderful! If you are interested in viewing wildlife in the Amazon, this is the place for you! A special thank you to the maître d' Carlos who was so incredibly kind and hospitable and our guide Dino who was like a real life Indiana Jones. I can't wait to come back! Read all
The most important fact we are grateful for is the true sense of understanding of the ecology of the Amazon the staff at Rainforest Expeditions (RFE) have shown us. RFE stands out for its stand against the pure, profit-motive initiatives many other tour operators do. We are very grateful to have had Carlos as our guide. Carlos is deeply dedicated, and is able to explain the nuances of the flora and fauna. The world today needs to act as one against the impact of climate change. RFE is one, bright shining light in this regard. Read all
We had a fabulous trip! The people were amazing, kind and very professional. The food was exceptionally good! The facilities are beautiful and well kept. We just loved our second time with Rainforest Expeditions and can't wait to go again!! Read all
Fantastic to be deep in the forest surrounded by incredible wildlife with our amazing guide Juan Carlos Yatto, who really knew his stuff! Also his photography skills meant that we could share our experience even better through his telescope using our phone cameras! We learned so much!! He went to extra lengths to find butterflies and moths for us along with so many different birds and monkeys. This was a travel highlight for us as experienced wildlife travellers. We loved our spacious room with no windows and open to more wildlife visitors but after 5 nights the bed could have been a little more comfortable. Luckily we had a second bed to use. Otherwise it was fantastic with hot water showers and fresh drinking water all the time. We were amazed at the variety of food on offer for breakfast, lunch and dinner and couldn’t believe they could have such a wonderful food offering in such a remote location. Even the wine and cocktails were great. I highly recommend spending the extra money and time getting to this location. We stayed at another lodge later which was closer to Puerto Maldonado and there was far less wildlife. Read all
Ederson made the stay at the lodge amazing. I have had many guides around the world and Ederson may be the best I have had across 50 countries. The lodge itself is nice, and has electricity. Food is good, and you really feel immersed in the amazon staying there. Its great that a portion of the money goes back to conservation and research. Noteworthy details: Ederson, the "commander" is the best guide! Read all
This place is a treat!! Incredible flora & fauna, food and service - the staff is quite attentive. Interesting research, with lots of potential. Visiting the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest is a must do! Read all
We had an absolutely fantastic time at the Rainforest Expedition lodges (we went to TRC and Posada). Everything from the communications and planning upfront, to the transport and logistics worked totally smooth. The lodges themselves are beautiful and give you a great starting point for all the trips while you still get the comfort and amenities of a nice (sustainable) hotel. The main draw of course is the jungle and the activities. We were in awe of the diversity of the ecosystem there and the simply stunning nature. Our guide Victor did an exceptional job of giving us the full rainforest experience and went to great lengths to show us the best spots for wildlife. We really enjoyed our time with him! Absolutely stunning experience!! Read all
4 days, three nights at TRC exceeded our expectations. We had good weather and although the Macaws weren't active on the clay licks, we saw plenty and our guide (very lucky to have Juan Carlos for our group) got great wildlife images on our phones with his scope. Food was excellent and the pace of activities was very good. Comfort Room was good upgrade for the two of us - nice long walk on the jungle walkway with the birds and a spider monkey crashing overhead! Thanks to Monica Montes for arranging. Read all
The attention to detail by the staff really stood out. The food was excellent. The cleaning staff was tidy and great. Above all, our tour guide Juan Carlos Yatto was superb. I visited to do birdwatching and he helped us spot nearly 100 different species. I would highly recommend that any birdwatchers book Juan Carlos as their guide. I need to edit my photos still but attached are a few from my phone. Read all
Absolutely recomended! The place, the activities and the people are incredible. They also care about wild life and the enviroment, trying to leave in each person that lesson. The guides and the service personal were gently. This is an excellent way to learn and connect with nature. Read all
A Truly Unique and Wonderful Experience at Refugio Amazonas We had a wonderful stay at Refugio Amazonas — it was such a unique and memorable experience, truly allowing us to connect with nature. Seeing the macaws and other beautiful birds flying freely in their natural habitat was absolutely breathtaking. The boat ride to the resort was a delightful experience in itself, offering stunning views of the rainforest and river. Once we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly and hospitable staff who made us feel right at home throughout our stay. The food at the resort was amazingly fresh and delicious — every meal was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. Our accommodation was equally special; we slept in a room with an open wall and no windows, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest. The bed was draped with a mosquito net, adding both comfort and charm to the experience. We even had lovely butterflies visiting our room — such a magical touch! Overall, our stay at Refugio Amazonas was peaceful, refreshing, and unforgettable. We left with hearts full of gratitude and memories we’ll cherish forever. Read all
